Last week, the opening of Zoë Buckman‘s “Imprison Her Soft Hand” at Project for Empty Space in Newark was celebrated with a private reception and dinner.
The solo show takes its title from John Keats‘ Ode on Melancholy, and includes new work that explores themes of femininity, gender roles, and female power. Gynecological medical gear and equipment were given a shiny, slick, or glowing treatment, while boxing gloves were covered in wedding gown material.

For the celebratory evening, co-directors of Project for Empty Space and Gateway Project Spaces Jasmine Wahi and Rebecca Jampol hosted a group of guests that included Helen Toomer, Tiana Webb Evans, Lewis Long, Sienna Miller, David Antonio Cruz, Shari Loeffler, Joeonna Bellorado-Samuels, and others, for a multi-course dinner prepared by Chef Michael S. Easterling.
