Nathaniel Mary Quinn: SCENES

Katy Donoghue

11 October 2022

The new works in Nathaniel Mary Quinn’s “SCENES” see the artist’s singular style of portraiture utilized in an exploration of film and memorable scenes that have stayed in his mind, also looking at the thematic nature of social media. Open at Almine Rech in London October 11—November 12, Quinn shares that further inspiration for the featured works was drawn from an emotional encounter with Francis Bacon’s works at The Royal Academy of Art earlier this year and his wife’s own pursuit of a career in film and television. Viewers at the gallery will find notions of familiar films suggested in compositions like a man at a bench holding a box of chocolates titled Bubba Gump and Homelander, in which the artist’s visual signature depicts a superhero clad in a caped uniform of red, white, and blue.
