Frieze New York 2023 Returns to The Shed

Global art fair Frieze New York returns to The Shed, celebrating more than 60 galleries alongside the international art community from May 17-21. Christine Messineo leads the renowned event for a second time, creating a myriad of must-see presentations such as David Kordansky’s scintillating show by artist Lauren Halsey, uplifting her community of South Central Los Angeles, and Gallery Hyundai’s solo exhibition by visionary Yoo Geun-Taek, embracing traditional East Asian ink painting while infusing bold, modern tone and texture. Dastan Gallery champions the breathtaking works of Iranian female artists, including the late Farideh Lashai alongside the contemporary photographer Newsha Tavakolian.

Artist Jessica Vaughn ceremoniously receives the first Frieze Artadia Prize for her astounding work The Internet of Things, while the Artist Plate Project, in partnership with Coalition for the Homeless, debuts 40 stunning, limited-edition plates by esteemed creatives such as the late Virgil Abloh and Takashi Murakami, raising critical funds and providing crisis services for those in need.

“This year’s Frieze New York brings together extraordinary galleries and artists to inform, challenge, and delight. In its tradition, the fair features a strong core of NYC galleries and the artists they represent. New York is the undisputed center of the international art market and art lovers and collectors will be able to immerse themselves in the global perspectives that the fair brings to the city. In addition, a key part of our mission is discovery, not only at the fair but throughout New York, providing a platform to non-profit organizations that have been foundational to the City’s art community and its continued vitality,” said Christine Messineo, Director of Americas at Frieze.
