Adeam fall/winter 2017

Adeam Celebrates the Many Shapes of Women

Eliza Jordan

10 February 2017

Hanako Maeda, the designer behind Adeam known for craftsmanship and artistic inspirations, recently debuted her newest collection for fall/winter 2017 in New York. On the runway, we saw something a little moodier and darker than in past seasons. Gaining inspiration from Gothic & Lolita—the fashion subculture from the 1990s in Harajuku—and Victoria and Edwardian clothing, there were a variety of punk and rock influences, and a feminine mix of ornamental detail.

Puffy sleeves and corset-cinched waists, alongside other 19th-century characteristics that were once used to constrict women’s figures, are celebrated. We saw a sweet offering of soft, fluid fabrics that created natural curves and shapes, and an array of hand-embroidered features like pearl buttons and smocking on shirtdress sleeves that added a couture touch.

Celebrating the beauty of the female figure, Adeam’s fall/winter 2017 collection is a wonderful womanly commemoration.
