Hong Kong’s Duddell’s debuted its newest collaborative exhibition last Tuesday, coinciding with Art Basel Hong Kong. “Duddell’s x DMA: Concentrations HK: Margaret Lee” celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Dallas Museum of Art’s (DMA) DMA’s Concentrations series with a selection of works in painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography, commissioned as a site-specific installation.
New York artist Margaret Lee created works inspired by the DMA permanent collection, juxtaposing classic pieces by hanging a series of photographs involving iconic objects related to cultural exchanges, symbols of power, and fetishes. Through the dialogue between the diverse elements of the installation, Lee creates work laden with imagery of desire, which DMA Assistant Curator Gabriel Ritter says will “[challenge] us to rethink the role of the contemporary in an encyclopedic collection.” The exhibition is up through June 21.
