Last week, Gagosian Gallery celebrated a very special opening and book signing for the new Gagosian Shop, located at 976 Madison Avenue in New York. The shop, which owes its design to a collaborative effort between the gallery and Selldorf Architects, will feature publications and limited-edition pieces and products, including a Cindy Sherman “Madame de Pompadour” Tea Set and Takashi Murakami rings, as well as hand-bound books and one-of-a-kind artist prints.
Artist Brice Marden signed copies of the new catalogue featuring his work and past exhibition at Gagosian, entitled Brice Marden: Red Yellow Blue. Guests were also invited to view “The Last Studies,” a series of intimate Polaroids taken by Balthus as a case study for his paintings, concurrent with “Cats and Girls: Paintings and Provocations” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The shop will continue to feature artist’s books with events throughout the year, including William Eggleston: At Zenith, coming up later this month on October 28 and coinciding with the exhibition of Eggleston’s photographs on view at 980 Madison Avenue through December 21.
