Louis Vuitton has launched Objects Nomades this week at the brand’s temporary Miami Design District store. It is a series of travel objects that are both beautiful and essential. The collection, which has many limited-edition items and will be carried in only select Louis Vuitton locations, centers on the nomadic nature of travel objects. While the iconic fashion house is famous for their luggage, this new series of items focuses less on bags to carry your possessions, but rather possessions that carry themselves. Among the pieces there is a leather hammock by Atelier Oï, a USB powered Venetian glass lantern by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, and the “Love Bench” designed by Clino Castelli, a folding love seat made of leather so seamlessly layered it looks like plywood. There are more practicable things as well, like the eight-layered neck pillow made of men’s shirting and handsome lunettes de sommeil with washable eye rings by Constance Guisset.
There will be new designs intermittently introduced to the Objects Nomades over time, as the more limited-edition pieces sell out. One such item, the Maracatu, designed by Fernando and Humberto Campana, is a collapsable hanging closet made from Louis Vuitton’s Haute Maroquinerie leather. Each Maracatu is individually signed and numbered, only 12 were made.
The entire collection will be on view for the duration of Design Miami/ from December 5-9, 2012. It will be sold at the SoHo store in New York with more locations to follow.
