The LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize held its opening exhibition at CHAMBER Gallery Thursday, June 1, featuring the work of 26 finalist artisans. The goal of this first edition of the prize was to highlight novel work and achievement in the field of craft.
CHAMBER Gallery in New York was filled with decorative and unique pieces such as an original amalgam of ceramic tradition by Brendan Lee Satish Tang, a brilliant sun with a star at its center made from hundreds of individual wheat fiber strands by Artesanias Panikua, enameled silver pieces by Fatima Tocornal, and many more.
Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director at LOEWE, inaugurated the opening event. Winner of the 2017 LOEWE Craft Prize, Ernst Gamperl, showcased large curved wooden receptacles carved from 300-year-old oak tree.
