Outside of the fairs this week, whether you’re looking for a specific item or you’re just trying to get in a little extra cardio, shopping in New York City is the way to go. Here we’ve included Whitewaller‘s favorite places to browse and buy.
Assouline
Known as a trusted luxury brand dedicated to culture, Assouline has opened the eyes and minds of many with books that are artfully crafted. With highly considered visual content, the brand has been building a passion for knowledge, culture, and travel, among an array of other topics, for over two decades. By extending its vision to create a desired library, full of lavishly illustrated books and special editions, Assouline gives readers something special to cherish beyond the bookshelf.

Creatures of Comfort
In 2005 Jade Lai founded Creatures of Comfort in L.A., and in 2010 she brought it to New York. Since then, the store stocked with unforgettable beauty, home, apparel, jewelry, swimwear, and lingerie has become an in-the-know establishment for standout labels and designers. The boutique’s focus is on highlighting luxurious materials with “minimalist modernism, a quirky practicality, and the pursuit of the playfully elegant.”
Whitewaller recommends: Checking out the store’s eponymous line of shoes and jewelry.
Anthom
On Mercer Street, Anthom is often known as a “gallery store” due to its unique design and notable collection of global designers. Opened in 2013 by Ashley Turchin and Marshall Johnson, the shop presents modern items and investment pieces to last a lifetime.

Calliope
Calliope features contemporary and midcentury items from its unique roster of designers. With products ranging from furniture and lighting to books and art, it works directly with the creators to sell items on a rotating basis and only when available. The store also hosts select activities and workshops.

Project No. 8
Since 2010, Project No. 8 has delivered an innovative approach to retail through happiness. Inspired by their travels, and with the aim of creating a travel and hotel store, the owners hand-select a unique assortment of prints, skincare, snacks, clothing, accessories, toys, and gifts from around the world.

Michele Varian
Lighting, furniture, and textile designer Michele Varian opened her eponymous store in SoHo as a sustainable support between designers and retail. Offering jewelry, objets d’art, home goods, luxury design pieces, and more, Varian also hosts a series of talks regarding business, which have stemmed from her editorial series “Design Talk by MV.”
Whitewaller recommends: Attending the Design Talk Roundtable on May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
