Jasmine Wahi’s Miami: Latin Café, PAMM, and Vanity Projects

To give you an insider look at Miami for your stay during Art Basel in Miami Beach, we’re talking to those in-the-know. Here, founder and Co-director of Project for Empty Space, Jasmine Wahi, shares his favorite spots to dine, drink, relax, and see art.

WHERE TO EAT AND SIP
Latin Cafe on Biscayne Blvd. This is one of my favorite spots to grab Cuban food outside of Little Havana. I recommend the Cuban sandwich (a classic), and do not skip the espresso. Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is another unpretentious, comfort food haunt in the 40s. I’m not an oyster aficionado, but I’ve been told the oysters are delightful.

WHERE TO SEE ART
Ebony G. Patterson’s “. . . while the dew is still on the roses . . .” at PAMM! I’m like a moth to flame when it comes to Ebony’s work. She is one of my favorite artists creating socially impactful work right now. I am beyond excited for it. The Haas Brothers’ “Ferngully” is opening at the BASS Museum. Their convergence of whimsical design, nineties nostalgia, and formal visual arts is particularly appealing to me, a nineties kid who was just shy of obsessed with the Disney movie Fern Gully.

WHERE TO HAVE FUN AND RELAX
Soho Beach House, particularly the spa. Yes, it’s crowded like an ant colony during Basel, but it’s still nice to take a rest, have a towel and pool moment. And, by total contrast, the public beaches above 21st Street. And finally, Vanity Projects Miami. Not everyone finds a manicure relaxing, but I’m a nail-art junkie. For all my fellow gel friends, this is the place for you.
