Robert Longo: I do fly / After summer merrily

In Robert Longo’s first exhibition with Pace Gallery, this installation of Longo’s “Destroyer Cycle” works puts an end to the series, which explores American power, violence, and mythmaking. Titled “I do fly / After summer merrily,” the presentation (open through October 23) expands on ideas of protest, freedom, and entropy through six large-scale charcoal drawings that propose hope through imagery reflecting the current state of our social and political situation—like the 96 x 146 inches Untitled (Robert E. Lee Monument Graffiti for George Floyd; Richmond, Virginia, 2020), which sees a black-and-white  depiction of the stone fixture covered in its entirety with scribbles, graffiti, and script like “PEACE,” “BLM,” and “Black is Beautiful.”
