Harold Ancart: La Grande Profondeur

Translating to “The Deep End,” Harold Ancart’s exhibition “La Grande Profondeur” features new sculptural works from a series begun in 2017. Ancart’s first Parisian solo exhibition, the sculptures (on view through November 20) have been made from leftover styrofoam, cast in concrete and painted with layers of bright color. Looking to the work of artists like David Hockney and Josef Albers, Ancart’s swimming pool-esque reliefs reference in their composition ideas of the actual entity of a swimming pool, along with proposed ponderings of the defining differences in shallow versus deep.
