Last month, when the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, millions of Americans lost their federal rights to several reproductive services. In response to this monumental shift, individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations have rallied in support of reproductive rights—and the art community is no exception.
To support this cause, Artsy has organized an auction with Anat Ebgi Gallery in Los Angeles to support access to safe and legal abortion services. Over 40 female-identifying artists have created works based on their reactions to the ruling, which will be on display at the gallery from July 21–23.
Joining the show is an online auction that will take place on Artsy. Collectors can place bids on pieces from July 15–29, with 100 percent of sale proceeds benefitting the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP)—an independent abortion fund that provides monetary support for those in need of abortions or emergency contraception. Based in Los Angeles, but aiding patients nationwide, the organization directly connects patients with doctors and clinics to help individuals who cannot afford services. Today, WRRAP directs a significant portion of its funding to individuals in states considered hostile to reproductive rights.
Participating artists in the show and sale include Becky Kolsrud, Sarah Ann Weber, among others. Kolsrud—known for her metaphysical imagery and peach and blue color palette—shares a portrait of a woman with a see-through banner stating “Protect choice, protect women” for the auction.
Weber follows through with her signature vegetation depictions, presenting a piece of floral artwork declaring “Women will die.” She deviates from her typical color schemes with vibrant pinks and reds that demand attention.
