On November 29, Saint Laurent Rive Droite debuted an alluring exhibition specially curated by Madonna and Creative Director Anthony Vacccarello for the occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach. Currently on view through December 4, the not-to-miss presentation rejoices in the re-edition of “Sex”: Madonna’s revolutionary book first published in 1992 by Callaway.
The powerful exhibition is made up of large-scale prints made exclusively from the book for the first time, on view in a dynamic beachfront box structure. Photographs of unrestrained sexual self-expression were documented in the early 90s by the legendary Steven Meisel. Once considered shockingly provocative, they have endured as timeless and celebrated works of art. Alongside inspiring text by Madonna, an endlessly creative and barrier breaking icon, “Sex” is a tribute to forward thinking culture and style, continuing to influence artists across the globe.
Within the exhibition, 800 limited edition issues of “Sex” are re-issued, including bespoke copies signed by Madonna, as well as exclusively designed t-shirts and tote bags. Proceeds from the exhibition, and an upcoming auction, will support the mission of Madonna’s Raising Malawi charity. Since 2006, the non-profit organization strives to end extreme poverty and transform the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi by way of accessible health care, education, and support of the local and international community.
