The end of the year was punctuated by Art Basel Miami Beach (ABMB), which never fails to please. The quality of ABMB is unsurpassed. It’s not only a great forum for seasoned collectors and art professionals like me, but it’s also a fantastic place for beginners to get initiated into this oh-so-vast world of art. With as much art as I see, I always make discoveries and learn something new in Miami.
I was pleased to see Israel Lund, a painter who I first saw at MiArt in Milan last spring, make an appearance at ABMB at Roberts + Tilton. Salon 94’s booth was stunning with a beautiful selection of Marilyn Minter paintings, but the real highlight was the small display of ceramic works by Francesca di Mattio in their back room. I also loved the Ryan Gander wall installation at Lisson, the Matthias Bitzer and Francesco Simeti installation at Francesca Minini, the Dan McCarthy funny-face pottery at Anton Kern, Kay Rosen at Sikkema Jenkins, and Elmgreen & Dragset at Victoria Miro, just to name a few.
