Art Basel Paris 2024 Creates Bridges and Fosters Fruitful Exchanges

The recently renovated, shining Grand Palais will host 195 prestigious gallery presentations for Art Basel Paris, deftly choreographed by Director Clément Delépine. A wide-ranging public program ensues with notable partner Miu Miu, in addition to collaborations with the leading cultural institutions of Paris.

On October 18 in Paris, the majestic 2024 edition of Art Basel Paris descends upon the city, on view through October 20 at the Grand Palais. The recently renovated, shining space makes way for 195 prestigious gallery presentations, deftly choreographed by Director Clément Delépine. Three absorbing categories titled Galeries, Emergence, and Premise will offer the works of both renowned and emerging artists, with new project Oh La La! bringing little-seen, provocative works. The Art Basel Shop returns for its second iteration, placing bespoke and exclusive products on display. Throughout the run of the fair, a wide-ranging public program ensues with notable partner Miu Miu, in addition to collaborations with leading cultural institutions including Musée du Louvre and the Centre des Monuments Nationaux

Galeries, Emergence, and Premise Unites 170 Global Art Dealers

Galeries, the principal platform at Art Basel Paris, unites 170 global art dealers with spotlights on innovative visionaries of the 20th century. Van de Weghe (New York) raises the curtain on Jean-Michel Basquiat’s softly suspenseful artwork Rodo (1984), as well as Keith Haring’s prismatic vision of 1980s New York in Untitled (For John Sex) (1982). Emergence champions new, groundbreaking artists with 16 solo shows. Newly participating in Art Basel Paris, Christian Andersen (Copenhagen) unveils the mythical “Black Masters” project of Zimbabwean artist Shaun Motsi, while Exo Exo (Paris) offers the 3D installation work of French artist Lou Fauroux who imagines an internet-free future. New to the fair this year, Premise shines light on artworks developed before 1900 with nine gallery exhibitions. Sies + Höke (Düsseldorf) sparks captivating art historical dialogue with photographs created by Gerhard Richter as well as by Sigmar Polke.

Oh La La! Unveils 37 Spirited Booths Exclusively on Friday and Saturday 

New endeavor Oh La La! delves into the fantastical re-hangings of art pieces within 37 spirited booths. Exclusively on view Friday and Saturday, an array of paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and more invite highly imaginative artistry and points of view to the fair. Profound themes of queer identity, surrealism, eroticism, and history are collaged throughout the show. P420 (Bologna) introduces visitors to Chinese artist Shafei Xia who invokes Chinese erotic paintings of the 1800s in her emblematic scenes, Galerie anne barrault (Paris) brings the enigmatic works of French illustrator, cartoonist, and filmmaker Roland Topor.

Art Basel Shop by Sarah Andelman Offers a Bounty of Rare Treasures

The celebratory Art Basel Shop is meticulously curated by Sarah Andelman, Co-Founder and former Creative Director of Parisian concept store Colette and Founder of Just An Idea. A bountiful offering of rare treasures in the realms of design, publishing, fashion, and art will be available to Art Basel Paris attendees. AB by Art Basel reveals a wondrous capsule collection energized by a cover of the fair’s 1975 yearbook, alongside AB by Art Basel’s creations developed with participating artists. Highlights such as THE SKATEROOM’s designs by Jeff Koons and Guerlain’s Art Basel fragrance developed with French artist Julie Beaufils are just a few of the exceptional gems in store for visitors.

A Lively Public Program Unfolds within the Most Iconic Public Spaces of Paris 

Legendary Parisian landmarks host the lively public program of Art Basel Paris, with creatives like Ghada Amer, Jesse Darling, Niki de Saint Phalle, Ali Cherri, and Thomas Schütte participating alongside the debut of meaningful conversations. Miu Miu presents “Tales & Tellers” at Palais d’Iéna, Carsten Höller will exhibit an inspired endeavor at Place Vendôme, and Jesse Darling as well as Art Basel Conversations light up the Petit Palais. The Premiere Artist Talk sheds light on feminism and migration in underserved communities from Turkish-born French artist Nil Yalter, moderated by the distinguished Art Basel Executive Editor Coline Milliard.
