Three days ago, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) hosted a virtual kick-off event to celebrate Choice Works 2020—an online benefit auction hosted by Sotheby’s. The event was chaired by Cecily Brown, Amy Cappellazzo, Lisa Dennison, and Amy Sherald, and honored the fine art publisher Two Palms and its founders David and Evelyn Lasry.
In support, artists, PPGNY staff, patients, and celebrities took part in the event, virtually gathering to raise awareness about the importance of PPGNY. Seen on screen were actresses, artists, and musicians like Kristen Bell, Laurie Simmons, Sophia Bush, Judy Chicago, and Questlove. The event also paid homage to the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; a tribute to how the art world can continue her ideals by helping protect reproductive freedom.
On October 2, a live auction of selected lots will take place, while the online auction is live through October 5. Featuring important works by leading contemporary artists—including Marina Adams, Sam Gilliam, Dan Colen + Nate Lowman, Judy Chicago, Barbara Kruger, Raymond Pettibon, Dana Schutz, and Pat Steir—Choice Works 2020 also sees a collaboration between artist Cindy Sherman and fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez. Special for the auction, the duo has teamed up to create limited edition t-shirts—a unique initiative the organization has done in the past to aid in fundraising.
As the nation begins to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, PPGNY will continue a series of fundraising initiatives to help sustain the organization’s work during this critical time.
