Here, Whitewaller has included all of the “must-know” details for the first edition of Frieze Los Angeles and the returning Felix LA fair.
Frieze Los Angeles
February 14—17
The inaugural edition of Frieze Los Angeles will take place at Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood. The fair brings together 70 galleries along with a program of site-specific projects, talks, film, and music within a structure designed by the architect Kulapat Yantrasast and on the Paramount Pictures Studios Backlot.
Exhibitors include 303 Gallery, Jeffrey Deitch, Blum & Poe, OMR, Gagosian, Victoria Miro, Metro Pictures, Perrotin, Massimo De Carlo, Hauser & Wirth, Regen Projects, David Zwirner, kurimanzutto, David Kordansky, Sprüth Magers, and White Cube, among many others.
Frieze Los Angeles executive director Bettina Korek and Frieze Fairs director Victoria Siddall worked together with LAXART’s Hamza Walker on the Frieze Talks and Frieze Music, as well as Ali Subotnick on special commissions for Frieze Projects and Frieze Film.
For Frieze Projects, a group of Los Angeles–based and international artists were asked to create site-specific artworks for the fair’s unique setting—the New York Backlot film set of Paramount. Lisa Anne Auerbach, Sarah Cain, Catharine Czudej, Karon Davis, Cayetano Ferrer, Hannah Greely, Trulee Hall, Patrick Jackson, Barbara Kruger, Paul McCarthy, Kori Newkirk, Tino Sehgal, and more will activate the cinematic setting, offering a one-of-a-kind experience for fair-goers.
Felix LA
February 14—17
This February the first edition of Felix LA will take place at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, within the site’s private suites and bungalows. A group of 38 international galleries will present a diverse range of work at the invitation-only contemporary art fair.
Felix LA returns to the hotel fair style in an aim to create an intimate experience for collectors and connoisseurs alike. Founders Dean Valentine and brothers Al Morán and Mills Morán seek to bring a greater sense of community to their hometown. “With Felix LA, we want to create an art fair that doesn’t feel like an art fair. Set in the stylish Hollywood Roosevelt, it’ll be more experimental, more communal, and more enjoyable. Our guests will have intimate, direct access to galleries and their artists, artworks at a wide range of price points, and to the pool,” said Valentine.
Exhibitors include Bortolami, Shane Campbell, Canada, Kavi Gupta, Anton Kern, M+B, Jessica Silverman Gallery, Stevenson Gallery, White Columns, Vitamin Creative Space, Tanya
Leighton, and Josh Lilley.
