Tomorrow, June 12, Paddle8 will launch the online sale of DKNY Artworks to benefit Free Arts NYC. The sale of eight works by artists like Calvin Ho and Amy Gartrell coincides with the London kick-off event for DKNY Artworks hosted by Cara Delevigne with performances by Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea.
DKNY Artworks asks artists (like Ho and Gartrell) in international cities to re-imagine the famous DKNY mural that once rested on Houston Street in New York. Each participating artist has the task of recreating an image of New York as determined by his or her respective worldview.
DKNY Artworks is meant to connect cities to cities and people to art. DKNY will include artist profiles with each billboard or bus sign and invite viewers on a bit of a scavenger hunt. By using the DKNYfx app to photograph the artworks, viewers receive access to exclusive videos and behind-the-scenes content. In addition, the London artwork, a 3D piece, will travel to three different places. After posting clues to Facebook, participants have the chance to guess what the next location is.
