Frieze London and Frieze Masters 2024 Spark Fresh Perspectives

Visitors will discover a comprehensive new design for Frieze London, as well as revitalized curatorial direction at Frieze Masters, culminating in unparalleled fair encounters.

On October 9 in London, the 2024 editions of Frieze London and Frieze Masters will immerse a global audience in vibrant artistic discovery within the bountiful Regent’s Park, on view through October 13. Visitors will discover a comprehensive new design for Frieze London, as well as revitalized curatorial direction at Frieze Masters, culminating in unparalleled fair encounters. Much-anticipated highlights include Frieze London’s 2024 Artist Award bestowed upon London-based artist and filmmaker Lawrence Lek, the return of public initiative Frieze Sculpture, as well as robust new curator programs, acquisition funds, and artist prizes.

More than 270 distinguished international galleries will be represented, with Frieze London once again sparking critical dialogues with the adored Artist-to-Artist initiative; the exhibitions on view have been rigorously curated by luminaries Rashid Johnson, Hurvin Anderson, Glenn Ligon, Lubaina Himid, Yinka Shonibare, and Zineb Sedira. Frieze London’s bright new platform “Smoke” highlights the deft curation of Pablo José Ramírez (Curator of the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles), and unites a kaleidoscope of forward-thinking artists such as Lucía Pizzani, Christine Howard Sandoval, Ayla Tavares, Linda Vallejo, Yuri Yuan, Karla Ekaterine Canseco, and Manuel Chavajay

In addition, a newly extended “Studio” category within Frieze Masters, skillfully curated by Sheena Wagstaff, invites visitors on a must-see voyage through the boundless imaginations of creatives like Kim Yun Shin, Mernet Larsen, Thaddeus Mosley, Doris Salcedo, Nilima Sheikh, Adriana Varejão, Beatrice Caracciolo, Isabella Ducrot, Nathalie Du Pasquier, and Shirazeh Houshiary

Championing the Most Exciting Art and Artists of Our Time at Frieze London

“Our visitors this year will find the fair reimagined, with solo presentations and emerging artists front and center, in a demonstration of Frieze’s commitment to the most exciting art being made today,” said Eva Langret, Director of Frieze London. “Our new layout also features more spots for conversation and exchange, fostering meaningful interactions between galleries and visitors. These changes promise fresh experiences and new perspectives—I look forward to everyone rediscovering Frieze London this October.”

A Rejuvenated Frieze London Layout with an Intuitive Presentation of Artists and Galleries 

The dazzling new layout of Frieze London is spearheaded by esteemed design firm A Studio Between, which will beckon visitors through an intuitive presentation of galleries and artists. The sweeping and easily accessible spaces, communal and collaborative realms, as well as sumptuous seating and dining features welcome all ages to a blissfully rejuvenated fair. 

Galleries from 43 countries will take part in Frieze London’s landmark iteration, with revered London-based exhibitors like Lisson Gallery, Kate MacGarry, Victoria Miro, Modern Art, and Maureen Paley juxtaposed with international gems including Gagosian, Goodman Gallery, Hauser & Wirth, Gallery Hyundai, and Perrotin

Highlights of the Artist-to-Artist program include artwork by Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom selected by Glenn Ligon (Champ Lacombe, Biarritz), as well as Magda Stawarska offered by Lubaina Himid (Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix, London). The new “Smoke” section is energized by Humberto Ak’abal’s tale of a shadowy creature composed of smoke. Here, a multi-faceted show of works with creatives such as Yeni Mao, Noé Martínez, and Roksana Pirouzmand. examining natural history, ancestry, and diasporic drifts unfurls. 

The beloved Focus category embraces the emerging gallery landscape of London with visionaries like Harlesden High Street, Nicoletti, Public, Soft Opening, South Parade and Xxijra Hii, while Edition offers limited-edition masterpieces from Cristea Roberts Gallery (London), Knust Kunz Gallery Editions (Munich), Paragon (London) and STPI (Singapore).

Frieze Masters Newly Shines with a Rene Matić Spotlight and Must-See Platforms 

Frieze Master’s puts on a riveting display spanning extraordinary antiquities and modern treasures. Global lead partner Deutsche Bank rejoices in 21 years of ardent support for both fairs, this year casting a spotlight on London-based artist Rene Matić and their magnetic works of photography, film, and sculpture. 

The second edition of the Studio platform pays homage to the past as a beacon of the prismatic future. In turn, the Spotlight category, helmed by Valerie Cassel Oliver (the Sydney and Frances Lewis Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts), shimmers with lesser-known 20th-century artists like Kulim Kim (Gana Art), Balraj Khanna (Jhaveri Contemporary), Donald Locke (Alison Jacques), Nabil Nahas (Lawrie Shabibi), Nil Yalter (Ab-Anbar) and more.
