The artist Günther Uecker has returned to Paris for his first solo show in the city since 1968, inaugurating Lévy Gorvy’s new Paris space with the exhibition “Lichtbogen” (“Arc of Light”). Open through January 9, 2021, Uecker’s works activate the spacious, light-filled rooms of the gallery with a series of energetic creations that embody fluidity and light.
The featured works are a series of six large-scale canvas paintings, measuring over nine feet tall apiece, and 42 intimately sized watercolors on paper. Each Lichtbogen painting is centered around the same arcing motif, executed in different colors and variations. With each work, Uecker recreates imagery of the ever-changing world around him through vibrant gestural strokes, recalling sights like the waters of the Persian Gulf, the glitter of the Arabian desert, and the place where river waters meet the sea.

Nestled in the center of Paris’s cultural hotspot, the Marais district, Lévy Gorvy’s new gallery is housed in the former Espace Claude Berri. Featuring sloping glass ceilings and brilliant white interiors, the space has been reimagined for its new owners by Laplace Studio’s Luis Laplace.
