The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA Miami) hosts its annual 365 Party on April 9, celebrating Cory Van Lew as he embarks on the first painting performance of his career.
Van Lew’s innovative works at ICA Miami will be an organic continuation of his paintings and NFTs inspired by the evolving, shared experience of the COVID-19 pandemic. In imagined pieces, scenes pop in pink, yellow, and blue. Masked figures in hazmat suits portray the experience of the healthcare worker. During the event, in a mirroring of his artworks, Van Lew will use live figures in hazmat suits as “subject-stencils,” directing and painting renderings in real time. With these works, Van Lew will mark his first ever museum display.

Three one-of-a-kind “performance pieces” will be minted as NFTs and auctioned in combination with the physical paintings on ICA Miami’s new and original NFT platform. Hosted on the LiveArtX platform, and built on the Palm Network by Palm NFT Studio, the event will ring in the first ever NFT platform put into motion by a U.S. museum. Van Lew will gift a fourth NFT/painting for the museum’s permanent collection. The proceeds from the auction will help to uphold the museum’s missions: providing a platform for emerging and underrepresented artists, and facilitating through robust programs and initiatives the public’s appreciation of the most cutting-edge art of the 21st century.
