Tonight in Miami, the Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) will celebrate its five-year anniversary with a gala and auction at The Raleigh Hotel. In keeping with the theme for the evening, “Innovative Women in Arts and Culture,” the night will honor Marina Abramović, Lisa Dennison, Laura de Gunzburg, Michaela de Pury, Kyle DeWoody, Sylvie Fleury, Delphine Krakoff, Sydie Lansing, Nicole Hanley Mellon, Monique Péan, Amy Phelan, Roya Sachs, Olympia Scarry, Laurie Simmons, Beth Swofford, Yvonne Force Villareal, Linda Yablonsky, and Hikari Yokoyama.
In addition, the soiree will feature a silent and live auction hosted by Paddle8 with approximately 20 works by artists including Hernan Bas, Gardar Eide Einarsson and Matias Faldbakken, Sam Falls, Kim Fisher, Brendan Fowler, Mark Hagen, Rashid Johnson, Daniel Joseph Martinez, Iván Navarro, Anthony Pearson, and Raymond Pettibon and Aïda Ruilova, among others.
Some of these have been generously created specifically for the auction, including collaborations by Einarsson and Faldbakken, and couple Pettibon and Ruilova. Founding Director and Curator Shamim M. Momin called the collaboration by Pettibon and Ruilova “thrilling” and said of the pair, “They have often referenced each other’s work either internally or in the studio, but this is the most formal collaboration that they’ve done.” The piece is still in process, and will be unveiled at the auction, but for a sneak preview, a number of the works can be viewed on the Paddle8 website.
For the past five years, the nonprofit organization has been curating site-specific public art exhibitions across the U.S. and beyond, with a specific focus on its home base of Los Angeles. Reflecting on the last five years and the future of the organization, Momin said, “There isn’t a hard and fast line of evolution, but we’d like to broaden the nomadic aspects of our mission by doing more ambitious projects; we’d like to be able to work wherever we are able to build relationships.”
