On February 8 in Mexico City, Material Art Fair presents its 10th edition at Expo Reforma, on view to the public through February 11. An ardent supporter of contemporary artists throughout the world, Material will debut the works of more than 200 leading-edge creators represented by 73 exhibitors of 18 countries.
Alongside partner Del Castillo y Castro Abogados, the second era of Proyectos will be unveiled—a visionary program that offers six organizations from around the country the opportunity to introduce their year-round initiatives to the global art landscape. A parade of vibrant collaborations with forward-thinking brands, including Range Rover, Mezcal Amarás, and Docent, as well as a vivacious satellite events program, will spark vital conversation and community throughout the fair’s lively anniversary.

34 New Exhibitors at Material Art Fair
For the fair’s much-anticipated 10th year, 34 new exhibitors will be inaugurated into the presentation—including Proyecto Caiman (Guadalajara), The RYDER Projects (Madrid), TAP Art Space (Montreal), SISSI club (Marseille), Murmurs (Los Angeles), Galería Nora Fisch, (Buenos Aires), and Galerie Laurent Godin (Paris). Special Presentations are revealed from Cerámica Suro (Guadalajara) and Beverly’s (New York), with Proyectos freshly bringing together pioneering organizations Azul Arena (Ciudad Juárez), Sala de Espera (Tijuana), Planta Libre (Mexicali), Yutindudi (Oaxaca), Proyecto E.M.E (Cuernavaca), and Aberrante (Morelia).

A Parade of Tours, Performances, and Reflections Unfold in Mexico City
Leading up to the fair, on February 5, also known as “Material Monday,” the event’s classic public tour of participating galleries in the city journeyed through 12 spirited shows. Saenger Galería shined a light on an exclusive pop-up exhibition by artist Yoab Vera within Casa Gilardi.
On Wednesday, multidisciplinary artist Carlos Amorales proposes the musical extravaganza Fragmented States at the otherworldly Polyforum Siqueiros. An inspired mosaic of 20 dancers, 20 singers, and 20 percussionists—featuring choreographer Priscila Hernández, experimental singer Sarmen Almond, and percussionist Diego Espinosa—illuminates the mythical serpent deity Naga.

A rich exploration of attitudes and reflections concerning the modern development of AI will take place on Friday at the FORO. Aptly titled Machine Yearning, the symposium offered by KADIST and the Roberto Garza Sada Center for Art, Architecture, and Design at UDEM will consist of compelling screenings, performances, and conversations. The conference is initiated by keynote speaker Manuel DeLanda—notable philosopher and author—at Museo Tamayo. Throughout the weekend, artists and cultural leaders including Dora Bartilotti, Federico Pérez Villoro, Sofia Crespo, Helena Lugo, Amparo Vázquez, and Camilo Echeverri will bring their engaging points of view.

Material Art Fair’s Live Weekend Presentations
On Friday evening, Puerto Rican collective Poncili Creación brings a dreamlike fusion of puppetry and performance, titled “Cerebro de Abuela Piel de Piedra,” to Cárcamo de Dolores in tranquil Chapultepec Park. Dynamic events continue into Saturday night with the Latin American premiere of Untitled (Holding Horizon) at Dr. Erazo 182. The energetic performance by Berlin-based artist and choreographer Alex Baczyński-Jenkins, curated by Michelangelo Miccolis, is a pivotal three-hour spectacle of passion, repression, and deprivation.
Later that night, EXT x MATERIAL 10 AÑOS will be unleashed as an epic anniversary soirée at Colonia Doctores with Danish techno legend Schacke alongside musical artists Tommy Hart, AAAA, Sites, Lyo XS, and Deejay Energy.

Primary collaborations throughout the run of the fair spotlight the bold Mexico City art scene. todo–mundo art book fair revels in its second year at Edificio Humboldt, championing 53 international publishers with daily activations for visitors. Unique Design X Mexico City at Expo Reforma focuses on collectible design, while the International Visitors Program partners with Salón Acme and curator Anaïs Lepage to engross directors and curators from across the globe into the city’s dazzling hub of creativity.
Visitors will discover a myriad of immersive experiences during the 10th edition of Material Art Fair.
