Mesmerizing Works on Paper at Leslie Tonkonow

No contributor

“Paperworks,” the current exhibit at Leslie Tonkonow Gallery, features drawings, prints and linographs by artists Amy Cutler, Agnes Denes, Betsy Kaufman, Liliana Porter, Michelle Stuart, Kunié Sugiura, Saya Woolfalk, and others.

The group show combines a diverse selection of works that are intricate, if borderline obsessive. Both Woolfalk’s Rosetta Stone of Empathic Movement and Biology and Denes’ Liberated Sex Machine trace the artists’ development of machinated or spiritual transformations. Cutler’s beautifully surrealistic gouaches depict women whose emotional states are reflected in their environment. The amount of detail in each of these works warrants hours of mesmerization.
