An exhibition of new paintings by the artist Elizabeth Peyton is now on view at Gladstone’s 64th street location through January 20, 2021. Entitled “Lara,” the showcase of small-scale works hang throughout the space and above its picturesque mantles, filling the gallery with a selection of the artist’s signature-style portraits and other works.

Made with a muted rainbow of colors, the works on view include a series of oil on linen paintings like the 17 x 14 inches Lara, Garden, Autumn, which depicts a brunette woman surrounded by greenery and vines. A face composed of brush strokes reminiscent of those made by watercolors, entitled Reflection, E.P. is accompanied by scenes like a dog curled up cozily, called Felix Starlight, and a summery still life entitled Sunflower and Egypt Book.

With some paintings framed and others hung directly on the wall, the exhibition offers a serene moment to explore the artist’s universe, giving the feeling of closeness and intimacy.
