This week, Whitewall Spring 2025 Artist Issue debuts with a focus on India. The publication launches with a celebration in this week and the opening of the group exhibition “(IN)DIAlogue: Tradition and Transformation” at the Jaipur Centre for Art (JCA). For the issue and exhibition, Whitewall invited Co-Founder of JCA Noelle Kadar to Guest Edit and Curate. Ahead of both debuts, she shares her vision and passion for the contemporary art and design community in India.
India is a land of infinite creative depth, where past and present exist in a constant, dynamic dialogue. Art here is not just an expression—it is a living, breathing force, shaped by history, spirituality, craft, and a rapidly evolving contemporary scene. Over the last two decades living in India and working within the Indian Art ecosystem, it has been a privilege to witness and engage with the incredible diversity of artistic voices that define India today.
For this special India Art Issue of Whitewall, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with the magazine to shape a vision that we hope honors India’s contemporary creative landscape. This issue is a celebration of the artists, designers, collectors, and visionaries who are shaping the future of culture in the region. From the bold abstraction of Biraaj Dodiya to the socially engaged practice of Thukral & Tagra, the powerful figurations of Raghav Babbar, the deeply personal narratives of Sosa Joseph, and the experimental materiality of Asim Waqif, the artists featured in these pages exemplify the depth and dynamism of Indian art today.

Beyond the studio, this issue also highlights the collectors and patrons who are building a future for contemporary art in India—those whose commitment is not only to acquiring works but to fostering a dialogue between artists and audiences, supporting institutions, and creating spaces where new ideas can take root. We also look at the intersection of design, craftsmanship, and innovation, tracing how India’s rich artisanal heritage continues to inspire new generations of creatives.
It is especially fitting that this issue coincides with Whitewall’s first exhibition in India, presented at Jaipur Centre for Art at The City Palace, Jaipur, alongside a special launch event, co-hosted by HH Sawai Padmanabh Singh. These moments bring together the artistic community to celebrate and deepen the connections between local and global creative spheres.
As India’s art scene continues to evolve, its unique ability to bridge tradition and experimentation, spirituality and materiality, personal and political, remains unparalleled. I hope this issue serves as both an introduction and an invitation—to discover, engage, and be inspired by the extraordinary creative minds shaping India’s artistic future.
