The London-based artist duo, Walter & Zoniel, will present the unique performance piece Alpha-Ation, this week at the Delano in Miami. The work will feature the artists producing a series of on-site portrait photographs using their hand built, 1850s brass lens camera. Once developed directly on positive paper, the portraits will be hand colored and gilded with 24-karat gold to “iconize” their subjects. Alpha-Ation, meant to be “An ode to the modern day relationship with ‘The Portrait’ and our everyday acts of adulation,” allows the viewer to connect with the idea of iconography all the while questioning the modern conceptions and uses of photography.
Walter & Zoniel have been collaborating and exhibiting internationally since 2008, and have been able to create unique works through the mediums of sculpture, photography, film and performance. Some of their recent projects include a performance installation at the Tate Britian, “Salt Print Selfie,” and public installations in Miami and Liverpool.
Alpha-Ation is on view at the Delano in Miami from December 2—5.
