Luxury book publisher Assouline recently held a special cocktail hour and book signing to celebrate the release of a new book entitled Women in Art: Figures of Influence. The event was hosted on the third floor of iconic luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman, where guests were plied with champagne, cocktails, and the promise of an appearance by designer Reed Krakoff.
The lauded fashion designer is also the author Assouline’s new publication that sees him turning the camera lens onto the great women influencers in contemporary art. Comprised of a collection of deeply personal black and white portraits, the book captures these influential women in an unexpectedly intimate, almost probing fashion.
Women in Art marks Krakoff’s inaugural publication with Assouline, however he has long been active in the arts. A recent recipient of the American Art Award from the Whitney Museum, Krakoff is also a prolific photographer whose work has been displayed in New York and Tokyo galleries.
Krakoff’s first calling was not forgotten as attendees perused his foray into the publishing world. The designer’s collection also graced the floor, prominently displayed on mannequins and hangers. Unsurprisingly, the eponymous collection was full of clean lines and utilitarian tailoring, an aesthetic that clearly informed Krakoff’s book.
