Safe Gallery Sale Benefit Tomorrow: Women Artists for Women’s Rights

Katy Donoghue

9 December 2016

Safe Gallery in Brooklyn will hold an art sale to benefit Planned Parenthood tomorrow, December 10, 4-8:00PM. The gallery’s Pali Kashi and Sarah Welsh Elliott  have gathered works from nearly 40 artists for the special event being billed as, “Women Artists for Women’s Rights.” The proceeds for all sales, available tomorrow and for pre-sale by email, will go directly to Planned Parenthood.

“This idea came about two days after the election as we were installing our current Annette Wehrhahn / Fabienne Lasserre show. Our spirits were down so we decided to do something about it,” said Kashi. “There were a lot of upsetting things to us about the Trump campaign, one issue that stood out was what seemed to be the potential of back-tracking of women’s rights. We quickly reached out to our artist friends during Thanksgiving/Art Basel madness and got an overwhelming response.”

The artists who joined Kashi and Elliott in donating works include: Katherine Bernhardt, Yevgeniya Baras, Sarah Braman, Melissa Brown, Lizzi Bougatsos, Maria Calandra, Kari Cholnoky, Emily Davidson, Violet Dennison, Jessica Dickinson, Arielle Falk, Elizabeth Ferry, Rachel Foullon, Jess Fuller, Raina Hamner, EJ Hauser, Gretta Johnson, Corinne Jones, Erin Lee Jones, Fabienne Lasserre, Maia Ruth Lee, Sofia Leiby, Lauren Luloff, Carly Mark, Annabeth Marks, Sam Moyer, Annie Pearlman, Virginia Poundstone, Sara Greenberger Rafferty, Mariah Robertson, Jessi Reaves, Adrianne Rubenstein, Louise Sheldon, Ruby Sky Stiler, Mika Tajima, Aine Vonnegut, Annette Wehrhahn, and Wendy White.

“So many women were so generous with their work. I’m happy that we can end up making a contribution to Planned Parenthood. I’m also thrilled to see the art community come together in a positive way to make a difference,” said Kashi.

The “Women Artists for Women’s Rights” benefit sale takes Saturday, December 10, from 4-8:00PM at Safe Gallery, 1004 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211.
