On March 2, in a spirited toast to Women’s History Month, multi-talented creative force Sharon Stone debuted her inaugural art exhibition, “Shedding, a Prelude,” at the opening of contemporary Gallery 33 in Santa Monica, California. The event took place within the walls of the historic oceanside hotel The Georgian, which first opened its gilded, Art Deco doors in 1933, and is now re-launching with invigorated, Old Hollywood glamor. An intimate gathering of women dearest to the actress and artist, the special preview debuted Stone’s abstract works on canvas. Notable friends such as actress Tiffani Theissan, songwriter Carly Robyn Green, singer Aiyana-Lee, and costume designer Daniella Clarke embarked on a captivating, poetic journey while viewing 17 of Stone’s latest paintings.
Drawing from a wealth of personal and professional life experiences, Stone linked cherished moments, both lustrous and darkened, to the blank canvas, imbuing every inch with the rhythmic beat of heart and soul. From surreal cityscapes to luxurious close-ups, the artist allowed viewers a first look into the many shades and shadows of her most vibrant emotional memories. Titles like Labyrinth, Japanese Bamboo Forest Winter, and Roaring Twenties suggested a penchant for the past, and ardent sensitivity, curiosity, and concern for the world around her.
Blue was a complex piece in which ribbons of cerulean, ebony, crimson, and apricot danced in both harmony and discord against a cream facade. My Garden evoked energetic feelings of sensuality and rebirth in smooth strokes and shades of blush, grass, and rose. How I Love The Wind presented as a carefree quintet, embracing freedom of style and movement. Stone displayed a mosaic of vulnerability in Under My Skin, a hushed, visceral masterpiece in pink, onyx, and yellow. Riviera I, a ferocious blaze of gold, coral, and fuschia, was powerful, passionate, and legendary, echoing the timeless star’s singular on-screen characters, and the glorious Stone herself.
