Wednesday night, Storm King Art Center hosted its fifth annual gala dinner and live auction at The Four Seasons Restaurant in New York, honoring Alexander S. C. Rower & the Calder Foundation.
The evening celebrated the accomplishments of Rower—the President and Founder of the Calder foundation and grandson of the artist—who established the foundation to maintain the artist’s legacy. And Calder’s sculptures play an integral role in Storm King’s curatorial program, continuing to draw visitors to the center. Two hanging mobile sculptures by Calder, 3 Segments (1973) and Untitled (1952), were installed inside the Four Seasons for the night
President of Storm King Art Center John Stern and Director and Curator David Collens hosted the gala. The event began with cocktails and a preview of auction artworks by artists such as Dan Budnik, Alexander Calder, Zhang Huan, George Rickey, Holton Rower, and Richard Serra. Dinner and a live auction overseen by David Redden, Vice Chairman at Sotheby’s, followed the preview. In attendance were notable artists, curators, dealers, and art world influencers including Alice Aycock, Tara Donovan, Clifford Ross, Fairfax Dorn, Mark di Suvero, Cynthia Posky, Adam Weinberg, and Christy MacLear.
Monumental sculptures by Calder will be on view at the Seagram Building Plaza (organized by Pace Gallery) through November 10, 2014.
