“Hypothesis for an Exhibition” at Dominique Lévy

“Hypothesis for an Exhibition” explores parallels in thought and aesthetic strategies between Paolini’s work, especially of the 1960s and the ‘70s, and the work of a younger generation of artists based in New York City today.  In addition to Paolini, participating artists include Richard Aldrich, Harold Ancart, Sebastian Black, Kersin Brätsch, Guyton/Walker, KAYA, Charles Mayton, Seth Price, Josh Smith, R.H. Quaytman, Antek Walczak, and Viola Yeşiltaç.

Kate Ericson and Mel Ziegler Solo Show at Galerie Perrotin
July 08 – August 22, 2014

Revisiting the careers of Kate Ericson and Mel Ziegler, Galerie Perrotin presents a selection of iconic works from the duo. Two decades of engagement with communities across America underline their acute sensitivity and ethical awareness. The exhibit includes major works such as Give and Take (1986), Dark on That Whiteness (1988), A long Line (1995-96) as well as drawings and sketches that have never before been exhibited.

“New Hells” at Derek Eller Gallery
July 9 – August 15

Inspired by the crossing of life and knowledge, “New Hells” explores the contrast between the psychological and the “objectification of life.”  The exhibition, curated by Isaac Lyles, features work by Huma Bhabha, Violet Dennison, Jason Fox, Jesse Greenberg, Lionel Maunz, Félicien Rops, Jamian Juliano-Villani, Julia Wachtel, and Ivan Witenstein.

“Farm to Table” at Foxy Production
July 10 – August 8
623 West 27th Street
Foxy Production presents a group exhibition curated by Michael Bell-Smith.  This show brings together the works of Sascha Braunig, Petra Cortright, James Hoff, Joel Holmberg, Karthik Pandian, and Hannah Sawtell.

THURSDAY

Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts MFA Exhibition
Matt Carrieri, Matt Herzog, Gus Hoffman, AJ Sutton, Tiffany Tate: “On Being Solid” at Mixed Greens
July 1 – July 18
Opening: July 10, 6-8pm

In this group exhibition by five graduating MFA students of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts present works that explore the nature of matter and its malleability through painting, video, photography, and sculpture. This is a concept that represents the skill sets each artist has gleaned from his or her PAFA education. “On Being Solid” is presented by Mixed Greens as part of their specialization in conceptual art works created in diverse media.

“Go With the Flow” at the Hole
July 10 – August 23
Opening: July 10, 6-9pm

The Hole presents a summer exhibition in the main galleries, “Go With The Flow,” looking at the diverse and contemporary uses of sprayed paint. From aerosol to airbrush and further into the field of atomized paint, these artworks range from the slickly gradiented to the more surreptitiously sprayed, wit a lot of flying paint in between.  Twenty participating artists including Greg Bogin, Jessica Ciocci, Rosson Crow, Trudy Benson, and Wendy White.

Bruce LaBruce: “Obscenity” at the Hole
July 10 – August 23
Opening: July 10, 6-9pm

“Obscenity” is an exhibition by infamous Canadian artist and filmmaker Bruce LaBruce that will include the debut of his fragrance, Obscenity.  In an exhibition of photography examining sexual and religious ecstasy as well as the unveiling of his fragrance, this will be his first solo gallery exhibition in America since 2010’s “Untitled Hardcore Zombie Project” at Peres Projects, Los Angeles.

SATURDAY

“Another, Once Again, Many Times More” at Martos Gallery
July 12 – September 1
Opening: July 12, 2-6 pm
12395 Main Road, East Marion, NY
For its summer exhibition, the Martos Gallery will feature various artists serving as curators, creating shows-within-the-show. Walead Beshty, Kelley Walker, Carol Bove, Ryan Foerster, and Virginia Overton have been invited by gallery curator, Bob Nickas (who will also be curating the outdoor space) to organize a specified floor in the space. The title of the show is a tribute to Hudson, the late founder of Feature gallery.
