THURSDAY

“Monkey Town 3” at Eyebeam
June 13 – August 11
540 West 21st Street
Monkey Town, which lived for 7 years in Williamsburg until 2010, will once again pair visually captivating film and videos with top chefs creating meals and pairings to compliment the program. The event recreates its original and still unprecedented cinema-in-the-round by forming a floating cube from 4 massive projection screens and 8.1 surround sound. The new rendition will feature a single curated film and video program that replays every night for 60 days, featuring almost all multi-channel works by 21 extraordinary artists and filmmakers.

“HIPKISS” at Jack Hanley Gallery
June 13 – July 12
Opening: June 13, 6-8PM
327 Broome Street
Since the late eighties, Christopher Payen and Alpha Mason have worked under various names in parts of the United Kingdom before breaking from British Suburbia in 2001 for the French countryside. Now under the pseudonym “Chris Hipkiss”, the result of their 20+-year collaboration is a singular and multifarious visual language. Populating these vast, sub- suming metropolises and more intimate scenes of a city’s interior, their vocabulary reflects long-developed interests in politics, travel, ornithology, as well as feminism and femininity.

“The Cat Show” at White Columns
June 14 – July 27
Opening: June 13, 6-8PM
320 West 13th Street
White Columns presents The Cat Show curated by writer and artist Rhonda Lieberman, and developed with the Social Tees Animal Rescue, who will offer cats for adoption during ‘The Cats-in-Residence Program’ to be held in the gallery on June 14/15 and July 19/20.  This show includes work from over 50 artists/contributors including Michele Abeles, Rita Ackerman, Corey Arcangel, Matthew Barney, Marc Hundley, Ryan McNamara and Patti Smith.
