“Lightness of Being” presented by Public Art Fund at City Hall Park
July 25 – December 13
City Hall Park, Lower Manhattan (Bordered by Broadway, Chambers Street, Centre Street & Park Row)
Lightness of Being is an exhibition featuring 12 artists whose work displays a playful and irreverent attitude toward the formal ideas of classical sculpture. Everyday objects shift in scale to become larger than life or lose their functionality altogether; art historical references are transformed with a sense of wit and whimsy; and brightly colored objects and unusual forms bring a sense of levity to the exhibition. Olaf Breuning, Sarah Lucas, David Shrigley, and Franz West are amongst the list of artists in the exhibition.
