Go inside the worlds of art, fashion, design, and lifestyle.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year—the start of the international art fair calendar! Since the dog days of summer, we have been dreaming of cooler, crisper air, best enjoyed at say, The Regent’s Park in London or along avenue Winston Churchill in front of the Grand Palais in Paris. That’s right, Frieze London and FIAC are upon us.
This October, we begin in London, for the 2019 editions of Frieze London, Frieze Masters, and 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair. You’ll find within our pages everything you need to know about the fairs, hearing from curators like Amin Jaffer, who is behind the Collections exhibition at Frieze Masters. We also chat with artist Mark Bradford, about his Hauser & Wirth show, as well as gallerists Rachel Lehmann and David Maupin (of Lehmann Maupin) on their plans for a new outpost in the city.
Later this month, we head to Paris for FIAC, coinciding with ASIA NOW and the Outsider Art Fair—plus Paris Photo in November! Hear from the curators of Palais de Tokyo’s major survey of the French art scene, “Future, Former, Fugitive,” as well as Josh Sperling on his solo show at Perrotin. David Zwirner opens a new gallery in the city, and so we speak with its director, Justine Durrett.
Alongside details on all the exhibitions around London and Paris you won’t want to miss, we share Insider Tips on the best-kept secrets in terms of art and culture, as well as our favorite list of restaurants, bars, hotels, and shops, to keep you satisfied after hours. Whitewaller London & Paris hopes to make the start of your art “school year” as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
