Your First Look at Future Fair in Los Angeles, Villa Tigertail

The contemporary art fair known for its New York editions will present an invitational exhibition at a private residence in Los Angeles next week, benefitting For Freedoms' Emergency Artist Relief Fund.

Future Fair has announced Villa Tigertail, an invitational group exhibition scheduled during Frieze LA 2025. Set within a private residence in Brentwood, Los Angeles, the exhibition will run from February 21—23, offering a unique platform for showcasing art while supporting For FreedomsArtist Relief Fund, designed to assist artists and cultural workers affected by recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

The exhibition is curated by Thea Smolinski, a Los Angeles-based curator and advisor, and features the work of 28 artists, many of whom are locally based. Artists like Seonna Hong, Emanuel Hahn, Nick McPhail, and Hana Ward are among the participants contributing to this curated selection of artworks. These pieces will be displayed throughout a 7,800-square-foot modern home, which boasts an open floor plan, expansive terraces, and panoramic views of Southern California’s landscape.

Villa Tigertail not only highlights artistic expression but also serves a philanthropic purpose. A portion of the proceeds from artwork sales will directly support the For Freedoms Emergency Artist Relief Fund. Select pieces are designated to provide 100% of their sale price to this initiative, while Future Fair has committed to donating a percentage of the profits from other works sold. Attendees will also have the opportunity to make additional donations to the fund.

Future Fair founders, Rachel Mijares Fick and Rebeca Laliberte, shared with us, “Collaboration with dealers has been at the core of Future Fair’s approach since day one. Villa Tigertail provided a special opportunity to create an intimate setting for art and conversation in a home environment, rather than a fair, an informal three-day art clubhouse. Bringing Thea Smolinski into the project was essential to ensure the local artist community, which is so vital to the city’s vibrancy, was well represented.”

The event is designed to foster meaningful interactions between artists and attendees. A lineup of salon-style gatherings will encourage dialogue and engagement. It begins with an opening brunch on February 21, offering attendees an early viewing of the artworks and an introduction to For Freedoms‘ relief efforts.

Understanding the need for wider access, Future Fair will provide an online version of Villa Tigertail. This virtual component, powered by the digital platform Arcual, will allow audiences to explore the exhibition remotely, starting on February 21.

Future Fair to Benefit Those Impacted by the Los Angeles Fires

“After the devastation of the wildfires, which left many artists uprooted, we joined forces with For Freedoms, who were already developing an initiative for artists to incorporate a fundraising component into the show. Our hope is that Villa Tigertail will be an uplifting and engaging setting for the artists, dealers and invited guests to make meaningful connections in community,” the founders shared in response to why they chose to collaborate with For Freedoms.

Future Fair’s approach to the art world is guided by a commitment to community and innovation. The fair, held annually in May in New York, is grounded in a Profit Sharing Model and Mutual Aid Fund, which promotes the sustainability and empowerment of the participating art galleries. Co-founded by Rachel Mijares Fick and Rebeca Laliberte in 2020, Future Fair was established with a sense of shared camaraderie, creating a platform that champions both creativity and collective well-being.

This exhibition serves as a testament to Future Fair’s commitment to merging artistic expression with advocacy and support for artists’ communities. Through events like Villa Tigertail, Future Fair continues to push boundaries, creating spaces where art not only inspires but also uplifts and supports those in need.
