Francesca Amfitheatrof

Francesca Amfitheatrof is a multifaceted designer who is currently the artistic director of watches and jewelry at Louis Vuitton.

Biography

Born in Tokyo, Japan to a father in publishing and a mother in fashion public relations, Amfitheatrof was encouraged to build a creative foundation. First, that began at Chelsea College of Arts, followed by a bachelor’s degree at Central Saint Martins and an master’s degree at the Royal College of Art in 1993. That year, her first silverware collection was presented at White Cube gallery in London. After her first show’s success, she began selling jewelry at luxury boutiques worldwide, including Colette Paris, Maxfield LA, Selfridges London, Luisa Via Roma Florence, Jeffreys New York, Joyce Hong Kong, among others.

Later, Amfitheatrof consulted fashion houses on jewelry design and accessories, working with brands like Chanel, Fendi, Marni, and Balenciaga, launching new eyewear collections, designing hardware on handbags and shoes, and more. This led to being a jewelry designer in the early 2000s for Asprey & Garrard, Garrard, and Wedgwood, creating tabletop accessories and glassware collections, including teaware and gift items.

In 2018, Francesca Amfitheatrof began her role as the artistic director of watches and jewelry at Louis Vuitton. Her first fine jewelry collection named “B Blossom” featured a selection of pieces built from a traditional chevalier ring. Before her position at the French maison, Amfitheatrof was the Design Director of Tiffany & Co.—the brand’s first female design director in history—and brought the brand’s iconic Tiffany T design to fruition.

With over 20 years of experience in design—from jewlery to design and interior to furniture—Amfitheatrof is also a contemporary art curator, collector, and artist collaborator, presenting in many museum and commercial exhibitions.
