Acne in Paris Gets a Light-Filled Update on Rue Saint-Honoré

No contributor

Last week in Paris saw the opening of Acne Studios’s 219 rue Saint-Honoré boutique, following an all-encompassing renovation by the Barcelona-based architects of studio Arquitectura-G. Inaugurated with the most current collection—men’s and women’s offerings from the Fall/Winter 2022 collection—the two-story retail environment measuring more than 1,200 square feet honors classic Parisian elegance with natural light and a soothing neutral palette, while ensuring the designs of the Swedish fashion brand remain the focal point.

“Lately, I’ve been hanging out at the Rålis skate park in Stockholm, which was built under a bridge to prevent the concrete skate bowls from getting wet and slippery. I find it a poetic spot, and it reminds me a little of Paris because there are so many bridges in the city,” said Acne Studios Creative Director, Jonny Johansson. “I wanted the store to feel like you were sitting under a bridge. I like the idea of a secret society, a sub-culture, existing under the arches—and I thought it was a good way to think of Acne Studios as a brand on the big fashion street.”

Boasting floor-to-ceiling windows, which were recently stripped back to allow even more natural light, the entirety of the stunning corner space (both inside and out) is imagined in a Saint Maxim limestone—a staple of the city’s architecture, being sourced from the nearby quarry. Juxtaposing the solid stone floors, ceilings, walls, shelves, and columns, the soft-hued interiors are home to more fluid design details like swooping handmade metal railing and soft furniture by Max Lamb, whose designs include things like cushy black leather seating and organic shapes in hand-dyed fabrications. The house also invited its longtime collaborator, artist Benoit Lalloz, to design the space’s internal lights, which completes a sense of fluency when arranged in wave-like formations.
