Paris Design Week Debuts by CHANEL Maisons d’Art, Invisible Collection, and More
Paris Design Week took place earlier this month, and Whitewall is bringing you the poignant collections unveiled by Carpenters Workshop Gallery, CHANEL Maisons d’Art, Invisible Collection, B&B Italia, and Cassina.
Photographer Matthieu Salvaing Honors Brazilian Architect Oscar Niemeyer at Carpenters Workshop Gallery
During Paris Design Week, the influential Carpenters Workshop Gallery debuted an inspired exhibition where the vibrant photographic works of Matthieu Salvaing were intimately linked with the late Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. Aptly titled “My Niemeyer Years: Brazilian Modernity,” and curated by Salvaing, photo collections from 1998 to 2006 paid dazzling homage to Niemeyer’s stirring take on Brutalism, as well as the powerful partnership between the intuitive photographer and the legendary architect. Throughout the show, creative masterpieces by the Campana Brothers, Hauner & Eisler, and the late Jorge Zalszupin presented a spectacular dialogue at the intersection of Brazilian contemporary art, design, and culture. Salvaing’s highly nuanced architectural photography imparted the soulful designs of Niemeyer, their treasured friendship, and the photographer’s own passion for Brazil’s lyrical energy and philosophical design aesthetic.
CHANEL Maisons d’Art Presents a Dreamlike Collaboration with Invisible Collection at Féau Boiseries
Within the opulent Féau Boiseries Paris showroom, the CHANEL Maisons d’Art at le19M unveiled a ravishing collaboration with famed French woodwork purveyor Féau & Cie and premier online design marketplace Invisible Collection, highlighting bespoke gems by Studio MTX, GOOSSENS, Maison Lemarié, and Lesage Intérieurs. Within a lustrous atmosphere championing the visionaries of Studio Biehler-Graveleine, a riveting exchange unfolded between the archives of Féau Boiseries, the handmade treasures by le19M’s resident Maisons d’art, and Invisible Collection’s contemporary pieces. Throughout seven ethereal salons, golden brass furniture from GOOSSENS was juxtaposed with woolen cushions enhanced with hypnotic featherwork by Maison Lemarié. Bewitching large-scale mirrors by Studio MTX amplified the new Folklore themed designs and harlequin inspired details of Studio Biehler-Graveleine.
Three Masterful Female Designers for Paris Design Week
On the occasion of Paris Design Week, Invisible Collection presented a vivacious exhibition titled “Invisible Connections” at their idyllic three-story gallery space. Within the classic, mid-19th century style abode, the cutting-edge platform joined the works of LA-based interior designer Courtney Applebaum with a radiant collaboration between Swedish designer Louise Liljencrantz and straw marquetry extraordinaire Lison de Caunes. Applebaum’s inaugural namesake furniture collection, featuring her iconic Raffia Sconce and Terracotta Lamp, placed her singular eclectic and vintage-first style on splendid display. Liljencrantz’s signature Cloud Coffee Table is beautifully reimagined by de Caunes, bringing striking mid-century modern design and the exquisite artistic traditions of straw marquetry together in vivid harmony.
B&B Italia Presents Antonio Citterio’s Maxalto Collection for Paris Design Week
B&B Italia offered the latest evolution in the acclaimed Maxalto Collection at this year’s edition of Paris Design Week. Art Director Antonio Citterio rejoiced in the brand’s storied history, intermeshing poetic inspiration with refined, Deco design preferences. Beauty in craftsmanship and functionality remained top priority, as pieces enlighten both the contemporary spaces they inhabit and a perceptive, global community. The glamorous Arbiter modular seating system holds its own within an expansive room, boasting sumptuous cushions and easily shifting into multiple seating arrangements, while the exemplary Amoenus Soft swivel sofa has been streamlined for the most intimate interiors. A hotel-inspired masterpiece, the new Sileo bed design offers a curvaceous shape with a grand headboard for maximum style and comfort. Allowing for privacy in any chosen area, the stately Privatus windscreen is composed of handcrafted raffia and banana leaf panels.
Cassina Features an Avant-Première of its New Publication with Rizzoli
Italian design leader Cassina featured a spirited avant-première of its upcoming February 2024 book release with Rizzoli during Paris Design Week 2023. Titled Echoes: Cassina. 50 Years of iMaestri, the much-anticipated publication is meticulously edited by Ivan Mietton, a former curator in the Department of Design at Centre Pompidou in Paris. Beginning with the 1973 launch of Cassina’s iMaestri Collection, the comprehensive book explores the brand’s dexterous reissuing of quintessential designs by masters such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, and Erik Gunnar Asplund. Enterprising collaborations with esteemed architects Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa, and Franco Albini are placed into compelling dialogue with triumphs by Ico Parisi, Vico Magistretti, and Giacomo Balla for a far-reaching examination on the enduring grandeur and influence of the Cassina iMaestri Collection.
