In the biggest week for design in the city, NYCxDesign week introduced its second edition of 11 days spotlighting creative minds and innovators. Over 300 events are taking place at venues throughout the city, highlighting creations in furniture, fashion, graphic design, engineering, and other like-minded fields at openings, installations, shows, talks, and open studios.
A highlight of this week is ddc DESIGNPOST, celebrated with a press preview and opening on Monday, May 19 by over 400 guests. Attendees enjoyed cocktails by Hendrick’s Gin as they admired ddc’s spring 2014 collection featuring pieces by Baxter, Paola Lenti, Vitra, Missoni Home, Zanotta, Kasthall, and Roda.
For four years now, ddc’s showroom in New York has played host to some of Europe’s best designers. This week is no different, highlighting Italian outdoor furniture with three designers and brands: Paola Navone for Baxter, Roberto Palomba for Zanotta, and Paola Lenti for Paola Lenti.
Navone has been a female figure on the forefront of the Italian design industry for over 30 years and created the Casablanca Sofa for Baxter, a lounging piece with adjustable cushions. Palomba designed the Scott Sofa for Zanotta (which turned 60 this year), a series of satellite seating that is versatile, multi-functional, and simple. And Lenti’s Portofino series celebrates the eponymous brand’s 20 years of long-lasting, elegant outdoor fabrics and furnishings.
The expansive showroom (what ddc calls a collection of shops and shops) is at 181 Madison Avenue in New York.
