Alex Israel Summer 2022

Download the Summer 2022 Impact Issue

As we send this issue to print, we’re in the middle of a fantastic Frieze Week in New York, looking ahead to a summer of art, design, and fashion events around the world. It certainly feels like everyone is back into the swing of things, and we’re feeling great about that.

Reviewing the pages of this issue, I’m struck by the vibrancy of color—whether it’s Alex Israel’s gradient sunset peppered with palm trees (on our cover), Jen Stark’s optically charged works, Glenn Ligon’s warning red “Debris Field” series (also on our cover), Takashi Murakami’s smiling flowers, and Katharina Grosse’s immersive, draping canvases (on our cover, too!). We are soaking up the full spectrum in all its warmth, letting it rejuvenate us after two tumultuous years.

For our annual Impact Issue, this summer we’re looking toward the future—one that is sustainable, innovative, socially responsible, and ever more digital. We explore the possibilities of the metaverse and NFTs with artists like Murakami, Stark, and Agoria, as well as speak to those creating platforms for creatives, like APENFT Foundation, Click, NFT Asia, and Cyber Baat. Designers like Nina Cooke John, Alexander Díaz Andersson, and Jess Field share their approaches to community building and environmental responsibility within their architectural practices.

We’ve got dispatches from the triumphant return of the Venice Biennale, where Grosse, Gian Maria Tosatti, and Rafael Y. Herman debuted past and present work in response to the rich history of the city. We also share our experiences of site-specific, land-oriented projects like Desert X AlUla and Coachella.

Join us this season in embracing the benefits of saturating our lives with color. To download the full issue, click HERE.
