Tomorrow, Thursday, December 6, from 7pm to 10pm, the Marni Boutique located at 3930 NE 2nd Avenue in Miami, will present for the first time in the U.S. the exhibition “L’Arte del Ritratto.” It is a new edition of 125 chairs from the Marni Charity Project that will be sold exclusively at the Marni Miami Store.
The project was first shown at Salone del Mobile 2012 as a collection of 100 chairs made in Colombia by ex-prisoners. It aimed to reinforce the prisoners’ resettlement into social and working life, and the proceeds from the sale of the chairs goes to Service Network for Children of Inmates. A common seat in Colombian local families was re-interpreted by Marni who modified the shape, the woven pattern, and created new color variations.
In Miami, the chairs are linked to the “L’Arte del Ritratto” project through a photo exhibition created in collaboration with the photographer and filmmaker Francesco Jodice. The chairs are used as background for a series of portraits of Marni teams from different departments. “I particularly like this project as I believe it directly relates to the Marni aesthetic and its multiple facets. Design is a family passion, charity is an important aspect for us and the collaboration with an artist, in this case Francesco Jodice, makes the right blend,” said Carolina Castiglioni, Director of Special Projects.
