For the last six years, the Savannah College of Art and Design has played a key role in DESIGN MIAMI. The school returns this week as the official university partner of the prestigious fair, presenting a series of groundbreaking explorations of form and craft on view from December 3 through December 8.
The Highlights of SCAD’s Booth at DESIGN MIAMI
SCAD’s activation at booth X/06 features works by several celebrated alumni who each boldly experiment with color and texture. Artist Anya Molyaviatis debuts a new series of her signature three-dimensional weavings cast in rich jewel tones. Her works vary from cascading strings to highly structured geometric patterns; presented in a site-specific installation, viewers are fully immersed in Molyaviatis’s technicolor world.
Established designer Eny Lee Parker showcases tables made of glass and ceramic, epitomizing her proclivity for bespoke furnishings which arrive in unexpected shapes and silhouettes. Lastly, celebrated tastemaker and fashion designer Christopher John Rogers partnered with the furniture design studio Orior, helmed by fellow alum Ciaran McGuigan, to create a series of distinctive chairs. Their collaboration is an homage to traditional Irish fabrication, pairing harlequin prints with classical utility.
Extensive Programming for Alumni and Prospective Students Alike
In addition to the alumni work on display at the fair, SCAD at DESIGN MIAMI is offering events throughout the week including an alumni breakfast, VIP press preview, and admission information sessions for prospective students and families.
A Showcase of SCAD’s Fashion and Design Virtuosos
“This year’s booth may be our most wondrous yet,” said SCAD President and founder Paula Wallace. It’s easy to see why. Each work on view challenges our expectations of form, finish and materiality, yielding a cohesive vision of the future of design.
