On March 9, iconic Stockholm-based fashion house Acne Studios, spearheaded by Creative Director Jonny Johansson, opened its first boutique in the Miami Design District. Invoking an Art Deco spirit with the theme of “tropical softness,” the store’s expansive two floors fuse fashion with art and cutting-edge design, reflecting the multidisciplinary brand, its history of notable collaborations, and a lush new mise-en-scéne. On March 23, the celebratory event Acne Studios Loves Miami kicked off with a festive cocktail party at the shop. It continued late into the evening with a joyous after-party at its wedding chapel-themed pop-up in Wynwood (currently up through March 29).
Conceived by Swedish design studio Halleroed, a longstanding creative partner of Acne Studios, the store embodies modern glamor with a dynamic, modular construction of glass, polished aluminum, and shimmering lights.“The curve light fixtures were specially designed to be part of a graphic design of movement which made its first appearance in the flagship store on rue Saint Honoré in Paris,” said French designer and artist Benoît Lalloz, a storied partner in the brand’s lighting design. The sleek walls of the boutique are derived from marmorino, a lustrous and textured white plaster, reminiscent of Miami’s gleaming, sandy coastline. An onyx granite staircase in the center of the store performs like a celestial portal from one realm of wonders to another, grounded in bespoke contemporary rugs by Swedish aficionados Katshall.
Retro chic mannequins by artist Daniel Silver stand about the room in glossy black and mint green, juxtaposed with fluid, futuristic furniture designs by Acne Studios collaborator Max Lamb. The custom extravagant “Blobs” echo the brand’s vibrant, deconstructed spring/summer 2023 collection in meticulous, hand-dyed batik textiles. Offering men’s and women’s ready-to-wear garments, footwear, and accessories—like the newest iteration of the emblematic Musubi handbag in sparkling baby pink or jet black—the new space is a visionary wonderland.
