On September 8, at the Shanghainese TriBeCa eatery China Blue, Adeam hosted its spring/summer 2018 show featuring an elegant East-meets-West twist. As guests made their way to their seats, cocktails and steamed dumplings were offered, adding to an authentic, new runway experience.
The collection was largely inspired by designer Hanako Meada’s recent trip to Hong Kong, drawing from the city’s melting pot of culture, its SoHo (“South of Hollywood Road”) neighborhood, and its mix of dim sum restaurants, contemporary art galleries, and boutiques. Hong Kong’s acceptance of new cultural influences also drew Meada to thinking about fashion and beauty during times where celebrating difference was largely embraced—like the 1970s disco era. Fabrics, inspired by traditional Chinese attire, were seen with a shimmering touch. Lamé organza fabric, brocades and prints inspired by Chinese robes, and draped dresses were all of note.
