Yesterday was the VIP opening of The Armory Show. Whitewall was there to cover the fair and mingle with a few familiar faces. We also had photographer Annie Powers in tow to capture all of the stylish New Yorker’s who turned out. From the classic to the outrageous and super trendy; our picks for Armory’s best dressed certainly know how to put together a head-turning outfit almost as compelling as the art in the fair’s booths.
Andrea Urban proved that it is indeed very hard to go wrong with a little black dress. The straight cut and high neckline of the shift dress make it all-occasion appropriate. We love the way she jazzed up the simple dress with an eye-catching statement necklace and a neutral front ruffled jacket. Her shiny patent leather oxfords added a menswear inspiration while still keeping the outfit very feminine.
Winter is the perfect time to play with layers, as we saw on Hannah Thorne. Her pleated mini-dress with the black tights and a layered Aztec print blazer was paired with a sleeveless moto jacket. The studded lapels of the moto gave the sweet, girly, dress some edge, and the Aztec print jacket added a colorful, on-trend twist.
Now for a menswear favorite: Liam Derik van Loenen in navy pants taper severely at the ankle to create a fun silhouette that’s pretty atypical in menswear. He’s kept it simple up top with a fully buttoned, crisp, white shirt and neutral blazer. While we’re getting some great retro vibes from the blazer, the overall look is very contemporary.
