Collection: Opening Ceremony Women’s Pre-Fall 2013

Opening Ceremony‘s pre-fall ready-to-wear collection is a colorful, multi-layered ode to the great American road trip. Crisp whites printed with playful graphic neon’s are as eye catching as the road signs from which they draw their inspiration. A textured greyish-black front-pleat ankle pant calls to mind freshly laid tarmac and infinitely winding roads. The collection also forays into the natural world (as seen from the car window), using bold blues, dusky indigos, and deep reds, reminiscent of the light cast by sunsets over desert country. As many road trips do, Opening Ceremony also takes a jaunt through Las Vegas, using Lurex yarns and knitted sequin to capture the essence of the city of neon lights. With a nod to a day at the Vegas racetrack, the collection includes fitted ankle-cropped pants, quilted chevron jackets, and jockey-esque hats.

Unexpected pairings of silk organza with leather and Kingston printed jackets, dresses, and shorts are among the highlights of the new collection. Yet, last season’s favorites are not abandoned.  The collection brings back the honeycomb jersey complete with creative re-imaginings ranging from the use of horsehair to batted detailing.

Opening Ceremony was founded in 2002 by two friends from UC Berkeley, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, as a place to share their passions for travel, art, and fashion. Inspired by a trip to Hong Kong, the two decided to leave their jobs in corporate fashion to realize their unique dream. What began as a single store on a quiet street in downtown New York is now a global community with outposts in New York, London, and Los Angeles, a department store in Tokyo, a wholesale showroom, an in-house clothing line, a blog, an e-commerce site, a TV channel, and an annual magazine.
