Ermenegildo Zegna XXX Presents “THE (RE)SET” for FW21

The Ermenegildo Zegna XXX Fall/Winter 2021 collection kicked off the start of Milan Fashion Week this morning, debuting over a live-streamed runway show. Entitled “THE (RE)SET,” the collection was set against a mountainous contemporary structure and embodied the constant adaptability humans maintain throughout their lives.

Focused on the idea of (Re)Tailoring the modern man, everything within the presentation tied back to the endless (Re)Set of life—we change, we evolve, and we do it all over again when necessary. Fluid camera shots followed the movements of models as they glided through and around the building, dressed in comfortable silhouettes with simple lines. Even the atmospheric, bass-centric soundtrack solidified a feeling of constant, fluid motion.

“We all are experiencing a new reality concerned with new needs, which lead us to previously unseen lifestyles and attitudes,” said the house’s Artistic Director, Alessandro Sartori. “It is precisely at a time like this, when everything is under discussion, that we, at Zegna, have decided to (Re)set. We have looked at our roots to (Re)interpret our style codes and (Re)tailor the modern man.”

Though Ermenegildo Zegna’s XXX line was originally conceived for men, the presentation suggests fluidity in wearability, too. On male and female models, the earth-hued garments showcased ease of movement and versatility through amply-cut variations on the quintessential trousers and jacket pairing.

Classic styles were given a modern Ermenegildo Zegna touch through subtle details like long waist ties worn as belts (seen on coats and paired with pants), deep, external pockets with clean lines, and widened necklines. Variation was achieved through the intermingling of textures and fabrications—in particular, a recurring jersey knit, seen paired with chunky knits, cashmere, and shearling—tasteful layering, and the occasional pop of print, like a diagonal stripe and a warped houndstooth. Monochromatic styling throughout the lineup appeared in allover olive-green pairing composed of a suede overcoat and suit, a textured knit with pleated trousers in black, and a burgundy bomber and pants with a bright red turtleneck peeking out from underneath. Each worn with a pair of Jersey knit slipper shoes (à la 2020 work-from-home style), other favorites included a dusty pink ensemble with a bomber-style jacket, a teal and gray striped coat with a robe fastening, and an elevated take on a polo sweatshirt in white worn with matching pants.
