Golden Goose and Victoria Villasana’s Co-Creation Experience in Mexico City

Golden Goose and Victoria Villasana’s Co-Creation Experience in Mexico City

At Golden Goose HAUS, Villasana and guests together developed one-of-a-kind sneakers in a spirited 2-day event. Imaginative pieces dazzled with unique star shapes, lush embroidery, and bespoke patches, culminating in forever treasures invoking the artist’s soulful practice.

Last week in Mexico City, Golden Goose rejoiced in a groundbreaking edition of Zona Maco alongside the ever-inspiring Mexican textile artist Victoria Villasana. In an inaugural Co-Creation experience, the skillful creative met with the coveted fashion brand’s jubilant clientele at the immersive Golden Goose HAUS. Situated within the radiant La Roma district, the artisanal retail concept was unveiled last year, placing the enrichment of art and community at its beating heart.

On this unforgettable occasion, Villasana and guests together developed one-of-a-kind sneakers in a spirited 2-day event. Imaginative pieces dazzled with unique star shapes, lush embroidery, and bespoke patches, culminating in forever treasures invoking the artist’s soulful practice. Whitewall sat down with the generous Villasana while in Mexico City to speak about deeply honoring her craft, the thrill of experimenting in fashion, and telling meaningful stories through textiles.

WHITEWALL: Can you tell us the story behind the collaboration?

VICTORIA VILLASANA: I was approached by Golden Goose because my work is about working with different textiles throughout history, honoring that craft, but also because of my Mexican roots. I like to interpret it with different patterns and lines, and it was really nice to be able to do it in another medium.

Victoria Villasana’s Creativity Soars with Golden Goose

WW: Was this a challenge or natural for you?

VV: The challenge was getting a little bit out of my comfort zone, working in another medium. Normally I tend to work with canvas or photographs or the textile by itself. It’s about understanding different materials. But it’s exciting to play around and be creative with fashion.

WW: Are you going to continue on with special collaborations?

VV: This was a collaboration just for the Art Week in Mexico City. I’m lucky to have been able to be here.

Making Connections Through the Art of Textiles

WW: Can you tell us more about your art and your projects?

VV: My art is very much about the reinterpretation of textiles and telling stories through things I’m interested in, through photographs and through portraits, and making connections through that. I feel colors and textiles represent belonging in different cultures, reminding us of our grandmothers or reminding us of the great civilizations.
